McLaren Vale is only about 45 minutes from Adelaide CBD, an easy drive via the expressway. Come and explore this fabulous region at your leisure to fully enjoy the many experiences on offer:
Visit your villa’s cellar door (& let them know that you’ve come from their villa!) Many of our sponsoring wineries have placed discounts and offers in their villa: Maxwell, Hugh Hamilton, Coriole, Hardy’s Tintara, Wirra Wirra and d’Arenberg.
Visit any of the other 80-odd cellar doors:
appoint a designated driver
wander up the road 750 metres to the McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre to catch Trailhoppers hop-on-hop-off bus (they’ll drop you back to our villas on your return) to enjoy a day out without a problem! You get to select your preferred wineries to visit (about 4), stay for an hour while the bus does a loop, then on to your next choice. Just remember to book each winery (& don’t forget to book in for lunch at one of them).
hire an e-bike or bike from the McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre and follow your nose (or the aptly-named Shiraz Trail)
walk to many close cellar doors: Hardy’s Tintara, Vasarelli, Shingleback
enjoy a wine tour, with one of several wine tour operators (Wine Diva Tours for example) for a luxurious escorted day out
walk up Main Street for just over 1 km for a truly educational and fun experience with Bob & Eileen at Australian Boutique Premium Wines to learn about tasting and great wines.
Go to any of the region’s 14 breweries, distilleries or cideries (if wine’s not your thing, or if you need a break!)
Stock up with fresh local produce at the fabulous Willunga Farmers’ Market, held on Saturday morning from 8 am - 12 noon in Willunga town square, just over 7 kms from our villas.
Have a beach day - pack your bathers, towel and sunscreen and relax at any beach along our 30 kms of coastline. Our nearest is Moana Beach, 9 kms from McLaren Vale Studio Apartments.
A great activity for fun and fitness, is to either walk or ride the Shiraz Trail, which follows an old train line meandering though scenic vineyards between the historic villages of McLaren Vale and Willunga. Its name celebrates the luscious red grape that established McLaren Vale reputation as a producer of world-class wines. The trail is predominantly flat & bitumenised, ideal for wheel-chairs and pushers. It is well-signed and water is available at regular points along the way.
Don’t forget to visit McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre 750 metres away, to gather information on everything McLaren Vale (& slip in a tasting of wine while you’re there!)
Enjoy a meal, coffee or snack at one of the many walking distance restaurants and cafes along Main Road: Carmel’s Bar and Grill, Ind ‘O’ Mex, Red Gum Chinese Restaurant, Oscar’s Restaurant, Vasarelli Cellar Door and Restaurant, Tin Shed Cafe, Lang’s Kitchen, Chicken Inn, Subway, Almond Cafe, Mullygrub, and our new arrival (for breakfast or lunch) across the road Manna to name a few.
Enjoy a great meal or night out at McLaren Vale Hotel - just over 100 metres up the road (check their noticeboard or website for events).
Enjoy a beer (or wine) and a gorgeous meal at Ogre Brewing Co - only 350 metres along Main Road.
